Bright!Tax Offers Tax Preparation Discount to US Expats Struggling Due to the Coronavirus

NEW YORK, April 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Bright!Tax, the world's leading US expat tax services provider, is offering American expats affected by the coronavirus outbreak and international lockdown a tax preparation discount. Bright!Tax has won multiple global awards for its innovative approach to helping Americans file US taxes from abroad.

As part of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act passed on March 27th, the US government is providing a Recovery Rebate check to all Americans, including expats, who earn up to $75,000 per individual ($150,000 for married couples filing jointly). Above these thresholds, the assistance amount is slowly phased out.

To qualify for the Recovery Rebate check, expats have to have a US social security number, and be up to date with their US tax filing from abroad (it's mandatory for all US citizens and green card holders to file US taxes, even those living abroad).

The Recovery Rebate is worth $1,200 for an individual filer, or $2,400 for a married couple, plus $500 per dependent child under the age of 17.

Greg Dewald, Bright!Tax founder and CEO, said: "These are challenging times for everyone. Many people are struggling financially, and while we applaud the support the US government is extending to expats, they have to file US taxes to qualify. For this reason, we're offering a discount for expats who qualify for the maximum Recovery Rebate on their 2019 tax prep fee when they file with us, so they can become compliant and claim the Recovery Rebate payment."

Dewald continues: "Of the 9 million Americans living overseas, many aren't filing US taxes even though they're required to. These folks can catch up under an amnesty program called the Streamlined Procedure. Most won't owe any back taxes if they claim the Foreign Tax Credit or the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion when they file, and then they can receive the Recovery Rebate too."

Bright!Tax is the leading US expat tax services provider with clients in over 190 countries worldwide. For more information about receiving the Recovery Rebate and the Bright!Tax tax prep discount, go to https://brighttax.com/cares-corona-rebate-expats/.
