OSIsoft Extends PI Integrator for Business Analytics to Work with Google Cloud Platform and SAP HANA®

SAN LEANDRO, Calif., May 21, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- OSIsoft LLC, a leader in operational intelligence for critical operations, today released a new version of PI Integrator for Business Analytics (BA) that can deliver critical operational data to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and SAP HANA.

PI Integrator for Business Analytics extracts, transforms, and loads critical operations data from the OSIsoft PI System and serves it to leading cloud and analytics platforms. The PI Integrator for Business Analytics supports both scheduled updates and real-time streaming data to enable use cases such as AI/ML-based descriptive and predictive analytics provided within GCP, and helps accelerate deep learning of the existing operations collected by the secondary sensor data network along with primary IIoT sensor data found in control systems.

The integrator enables organizations to reduce the cost, time, and custom coding traditionally associated with transferring data from one platform to another, helping to eliminate the roadblocks that can throttle digital transformation. More importantly, it creates a reliable conduit for data scientists, business analysts, and others to obtain trusted, curated data from industrial operations. With PI Integrator for Business Analytics, a process manufacturer can quickly collect decades of data about product quality, output, power consumption, and other parameters from multiple sites to optimize the performance of individual plants or allow utilities to diagnose the impact of emergencies at different substations in their network.

Customers have already successfully deployed PI Integrator for Business Analytics technology to reduce the time consumed for data preparation for advanced analytics projects by over 80%.

Because PI Integrator for Business Analytics can send data to multiple destinations, it also provides industrial customers with flexibility in designing data pipelines and leveraging cutting-edge services in analytics platforms.

The new data destinations added to PI Integrator for Business Analytics are Google Cloud Storage, Google BigQuery, Google Cloud Pub/Sub and SAP HANA via ODBC protocol. Additional supported analytics platforms include AWS, Microsoft Azure, Apache Kafka and Hadoop. (Dedicated PI Integrators also exist for ESRI ArcGIS.)

"We're excited to work with OSIsoft because it means large companies can more easily apply machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence to their whole history on our platforms or with applications developed by our partners," said Chris Arisian, director of ISV Partnerships for Google Cloud. "The OSIsoft PI System is pervasive in heavy industry, and many companies keep decades worth of data on these systems."

Digital transformation and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) are expected to dramatically expand the scope and scale of data collected by manufacturers, utilities, and other industrial companies. Research firm IDC estimates that real-time data, i.e., the data streams generated by equipment and smart devices, will nearly quintuple in size by 2025 and come to constitute 30% of the world's digital data, up from 15% in 2017.

"Industries are adopting and investing in predictive analytics to identify bottlenecks, improve productivity, enhance safety, predict equipment failures, reduce outages, and improve customer satisfaction," said Ramanj Pamidi, principal technical advisor, Cloud Analytics Practice at OSIsoft. "PI Integrator for Business Analytics provides our customers flexibility while avoiding the turmoil and drama of data preparation and management."

About OSIsoft: 40 Years of Digital Transformation

Founded in 1980, OSIsoft has consistently been focused on software that lets people collect, understand and use data from critical operations, i.e., data generated by the production lines, safety equipment, power grids, and other systems that are at the foundation of their success.

OSIsoft customers have used PI System technology to predict wind turbine failures, increase annual revenue at a mine by $120 million, reduce the power consumption of a supercomputer center at a national laboratory, deliver water services to millions of new customers in a major metropolitan city, boost the fuel efficiency of cruise ships and improve the quality and consistency of beer, among other accomplishments.

Over 1,000 leading utilities, 80% of the world's largest oil and gas companies, and 65% of the industrial companies in the Fortune 500 rely on the PI System in their operations. Worldwide, over 2 billion sensor-based data streams are managed by the PI System.
