PHTA Issues Call for Participation on Revision of Residential Inground Swimming Pool Standard
ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) has issued a call for participation in the revision and redesignation of ANSI/APSP/ICC-5 2011 American National Standard for Residential Inground Swimming Pools. PHTA is seeking member participation on the PHTA-5 Standard Writing Committee (SWC) for Residential Inground Swimming Pools.
This standard applies to permanently installed residential inground swimming pools intended for noncommercial use as a swimming pool by not more than three owner families and their guests and exceeding 24 in. (61 cm) in water depth.
"This update includes changes to flow rates that will improve suction outlet safety and new options for supplemental and/or secondary treatment systems to improve water quality and enhance overall system performance," said PHTA-5 SWC Chair Dan Johnson of Clean Water Design LLC. "New products, equipment, construction methods, and ways to elevate safety for pools and spas constructed and/or renovated in compliance with this standard will be included. Pool construction tolerances have been updated, and beach entry tolerances have been better defined. When this update is adopted by building departments across the country, our builders and service people will provide safer, easier to operate, more energy-efficient, and more enjoyable pools and spas. PHTA invites all stakeholders to participate in the PHTA-5 SWC for Residential Inground Swimming Pools. Builders, code officials, installers, and consumers interested in residential swimming pools are encouraged to contribute to the development of this standard.
