ANVOL Nitrogen Stabilizer Now Available to Canadian Growers

ANVOL® from Koch Agronomic Services (Koch), a next-generation patented nitrogen stabilizer featuring Duromide, is now available in Canada. Demonstrating extended protection and handling benefits when compared to grower-trusted AGROTAIN® nitrogen stabilizer, ANVOL offers more consistent performance across a wider range of soil environments with varying pH levels.

“For the past 25 years, Canadian growers have trusted AGROTAIN as their urease inhibitor, but ANVOL is even better,” says Dr. Rigas Karamanos, senior agronomist for Koch in Canada. “ANVOL offers the longest-available protection against ammonia volatilization losses compared to NBPT alone. That extra time can make a big difference to growers, minimizing above-ground nitrogen loss when the rainfall we need doesn’t arrive soon enough. I believe growers are going to like the improved yield potential they get with ANVOL.”

Making a Great Stabilizer Better

The difference between ANVOL and AGROTAIN is the patented molecule Duromide — one of the dual active ingredients that combines with NBPT to extend the protection of nitrogen. With two active ingredients working in tandem, ANVOL provides a longer duration of protection from nitrogen loss through ammonia volatilization.

“Protecting applied nitrogen with a stabilizer is key to increasing nutrient loss efficiency,” says Dr. Karamanos. “Duromide slows the hydrolysis of urea, allowing more time for fertilizer to be incorporated in order to increase yield potential. And by utilizing the science-based best management practices outlined in the 4R Nutrient Stewardship framework, growers will maximize their economic benefits and support a more sustainable environment.”

Duromide, designed as a more stable molecule, has added longevity that increases the opportunity for nitrogen to be moved into the soil and not lost to the environment through volatilization. This helps growers maximize nitrogen availability in their fields for a better return on investment and minimized environmental impact.

Research Proves Increased Efficiencies of ANVOL

When the nitrogen in urea and UAN is left unprotected, it can be lost through ammonia volatilization. In a 2019 Michigan study1, UAN treated with ANVOL yielded 27 more bushels per acre of corn than untreated UAN. This yield uplift is driven by using ANVOL with Duromide, which increases the window of inhibition by up to 27 percent compared to NBPT alone.

Along with the stability and consistent performance ANVOL provides, its high active ingredient concentration enables:

  • A lower treatment rate,
  • More efficient coating operations,
  • Overall reduced labor demands.
