Nexar Joins the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium
The Automotive Edge Computing Consortium (AECC) today announced that Nexar, a vision-based software company whose aftermarket dash cams enable crowd-sourced vision-based applications for better driving, has joined the organization as a member. By collaborating with the AECC and its members, Nexar will ensure that new technologies and standards meet the connected vehicle ecosystem’s future needs.
Nexar’s aftermarket dash cams, apps, and connected data services – supported by an OEM platform – are used to create a crowd-sourced vision of the road accessible in real-time to many vehicles. Nexar’s experience in creating this shared memory of the road requires compute and connectivity solutions that can deliver network features and benefits which are accessible to everyone. As part of this effort, Nexar has worked on an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard to advance this vision of interoperable mobile edge artificial intelligence (AI).
“Connected vehicle services, such as crowd-sourced vision, navigation, and new apps like a free parking spot finder, will require the ecosystem to efficiently process and deliver unprecedented and ever-increasing volumes of data, some of which will be mission-critical and some less so,” said Bruno Fernandez-Ruiz, co-founder and CTO of Nexar. “As an AECC member, Nexar will work with AECC members to find more efficient ways to support the high-volume data and intelligent services needed for the ecosystem’s distributed computing and network infrastructure. “Our vision of connected services, in light of the compute-connectivity problem, is that differential treatment is required for different applications, data, and models. We’re glad to be sharing this outlook with the AECC.”
By sharing relevant findings, requirements, and technology solutions with standards organizations, the AECC aims to accelerate the ecosystem’s growth by encouraging the development of connected vehicle best practices and new use cases that utilize the full benefits of high-volume data.
“We’re pleased to welcome Nexar to the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium, reflecting the importance of camera vision data processing in the consortium’s ecosystem approach,” said the AECC Board of Directors in a joint statement. “We look forward to Nexar’s contributions to this significant initiative, as our combined knowledge and expertise will help the AECC identify the connected vehicle requirements and solutions needed to support the future needs of the value chain.”
About Nexar
Nexar-powered dash cams enable new vision-based applications for better driving. When drivers pair Nexar-powered dash cams with the Nexar app, they join a network that powers new applications for driving and seeing the world. Using anonymous, aggregated data captured from this network, Nexar has developed a portfolio of vision-based data services for public and private sector partners to make roadways safer and more efficient.
