Reliant Supports Essential Storm Recovery in DFW with $300,000 in Donations

The recent winter storm coupled with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has left many nonprofits across North Texas stretched thin as they work to serve neighbors and communities in need. To support their important missions, Reliant announced $300,000 in donations across five DFW organizations actively responding to the continued and widespread recovery efforts for Texans.

Nonprofits receiving support include:

  • Catholic Charities Fort Worth to support the needs of 200 families, including home repairs, temporary housing and general expenses like utilities and childcare, to ensure their stability in this most challenging year.
  • Metrocrest Services for temporary shelter for client referrals from local law enforcement, as well as support for the nonprofit’s food pantry and basic hygiene supplies.
  • Mission Arlington for storm recovery efforts including home repairs, food, water and emergency financial assistance for affected families.
  • Network of Community Ministries for housing repairs through the nonprofit’s “Handyman” program, which provides services quickly and directly to clients in need.
  • The Family Place for temporary housing, transportation and food for clients displaced from the shelter as it faces critical repairs. In addition, the donation will fund emergency generator costs and replace damaged bedroom furniture at the shelter.

In addition to the above organizations, Reliant previously announced $100,000 in donations to the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank to address the ongoing impact on food shortages and increased demand following the winter storm.

The donations are part of the initial $4 million commitment from Reliant and parent company NRG Energy, Inc. to address food and water shortages, temporary or damaged housing and the overall recovery effort across Texas. To support customers affected by the storm, Reliant also donated an additional $500,000 to its CARE Program to assist residential customers in paying electricity bills.
