“Howmet Aerospace Foundation has a long history of supporting the communities where Howmet operates,” said Neil Marchuk, president of Howmet Aerospace Foundation. “With the events we’ve seen during the past year, it was only appropriate we renew our diversity and inclusion efforts by working with employees to ensure our giving adequately reflects the diversity of their interests and meets the needs of their communities.”

While the Foundation has a long history of working with employees to fund causes supporting diversity and inclusion, it is amplifying these efforts by working with Howmet’s employee resource groups to identify additional funding opportunities. Howmet employee resource groups are voluntary, employee led affinity networks organized around common backgrounds and interests, including African Heritage, Early Career, Hispanic, LGBTQ, Veterans and Women.

“The purpose of our employee resource groups is to help us improve our company culture ensuring we provide a way for employees to bring their whole selves to work and connect with others within the business,” said Marchuk. “The groups provide an important support system for employees, offer personal and professional development opportunities as well as a way to give back to their local communities.”

During the past year, the Howmet Women’s Network focused its efforts building a professional network for its members and identifying ways to support other women in their communities. “In the traditionally male manufacturing industry, we felt it was important to help make connections among women at the company and through initiatives such as mentorship,” said Kristi Lisbon, Howmet Women’s Network Chair. “But it was also important for us to make an impact in the lives of women in our communities by working with the Howmet Aerospace Foundation to provide much needed funding.”

Working through local Howmet Women’s Network chapters, the employee resource group identified and championed non-profits and programs benefiting women to the Foundation for grant consideration. As a result, the Foundation granted $335,000 to 16 non-profits in six U.S. states and Germany. Causes supported by the grants ranged from STEM education, scholarships and workforce development to food security, human trafficking and homelessness. This funding included six grants totaling $110,000 to organizations in Howmet’s headquarters city of Pittsburgh.
