Rose Community Foundation:
ABOUT:
State and local Colorado media are invited to join Governor Polis, Rose Community Foundation, and state and local dignitaries at a dedication ceremony in Lincoln Veterans' Memorial Park to honor Colorado General Maurice Rose’s proposed memorial statue location and the kick-off of a fundraising campaign.
WHAT:
A 10 ft bronze statue to honor Colorado’s 2-star General Maurice Rose became a reality due to the support of Colorado Speaker of the House of Representatives Alec Garnett and Colorado Representative Patrick Neville. Additionally, our state legislature overwhelmingly supports the initiative.
“The high command of the United States Army in World War II recognized General Rose as responsible for shortening World War II due to his strategic skills and this unique military leadership abilities.” – Marshall Fogel, Author
Major General Rose was the highest-ranking US servicemen killed as a prisoner of war in WWII and is the highest ranking and most distinguished Jewish American soldier in US history.
Maurice Rose passed away over 76 years ago, but with this monument his life of integrity and military accomplishment will serve as an inspiration and role model for future generations of Coloradans to come. He was the most decorated Armored Battlefield commander in US Military History. He was awarded: The Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Legion of Merit with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, French Legion of Honor, French Croix de Guerre with Palm, and the Belgian Croix de Guerre with Palm. (an oak leaf cluster denotes having received more than one bestowal of a particular decoration)
After passing in the legislature, now begins the campaign to raise $500,000 to build, display and maintain the monument. Funding is anticipated to be mainly a community driven initiative via RoseMonument.org.
Internationally recognized and acclaimed sculptor, George Lundeen of Loveland is the commissioned artist. The work itself is anticipated to require approximately 6 months to complete once funds are raised. The Rose Community Foundation website has provided a portal for the collection of tax-deductible contributions.
