PEAK3 Unveils White Paper on ATSC 3.0 Enabled Edge Caching as a Service (ECaaS) for CDN market
Revolutionary Broadcasting Technology Slashes Data Requirements by 266x, Transforming Media Distribution Economics
PHOENIX, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadcasting technology company PEAK3 has released a white paper revealing how ATSC 3.0 broadcasting technology could dramatically reduce content distribution costs through a new Edge Caching as a Service (ECaaS) model.
The white paper demonstrates that distributing a 20GB movie to 10 million users via traditional methods requires 400 petabytes of data. In contrast, ATSC 3.0 ECaaS reduces this to just 1,500 terabytes -- a 266-fold reduction in required bandwidth.
"We wanted to demonstrate a compelling comparison between traditional peer-to-peer content distribution and the ATSC 3.0 ECaaS model," says Alp Sezen, CEO of PEAK3. "For instance, we clearly illustrate that distributing a 20GB movie to 10 million users would require 400 petabytes of data using traditional methods, which inefficiently transmit multiple copies of the same content. In contrast, ATSC 3.0 ECaaS reduces this to 1,500 terabytes by datacasting the content once to 750 towers, eliminating middle mile distribution. This represents a 266-fold reduction in required bandwidth, a significant efficiency gain that could revolutionize content delivery strategies."
The company's research shows ATSC 3.0 has the ability to provide 4K video quality while also offering a 26Mbps datacast channel per tower. This capability supports wide-area data distribution for software updates and file sharing.
The ECaaS model uses predictive analytics to cache content at the network edge, reducing load on core networks while lowering latency and operational costs.
PEAK3 has partnered with DigiCAP and Cachengo to enhance the solution through combined expertise, making the technology more accessible and scalable.
The white paper outlines benefits for various stakeholders:
-- Content providers gain more efficient distribution -- Manufacturers can update IoT devices regionally -- Network operators see reduced strain on infrastructure -- Local content creators can distribute specialized content like high school sports
