Benefits Management Group Provides Notice of Data Event
July 17, 2025 (Oakbrook, IL) - Benefits Management Group, Inc. ("BMGI") is providing notice of a data security incident that may involve information relating to certain individuals.
On or about November 26, 2024, BMGI learned of potential unauthorized activity relating to certain BMGI computer systems. Upon learning of the activity, BMGI quickly took steps to secure its computer systems and began an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the activity. The investigation determined an unauthorized actor copied certain files on BMGI computer systems between October 24, 2024, and December 2, 2024. As a result, BMGI undertook an extensive review of the involved files to determine whether they contained sensitive information, to whom the information relates, and to which pension or health plans the affected information relates. The review was recently completed and BMGI is notifying individuals that the investigation determined had accessible information.
The investigation determined that although affected information varies by individual, the accessible information includes first and last names in combination with identifier, such as date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license number, financial account information, and pension application information. Pension application data encompasses pension data provided during the enrollment process which may include: Social Security number, driver's license number or state identification, passport number, birth certificate, U.S. military certificate, marriage certificate, and/or direct deposit information.
BMGI treats the responsibility to safeguard information in its possession as an utmost priority. Upon learning of this incident, BMGI promptly took steps to secure systems, began a comprehensive investigation, and worked diligently to provide affected plans individuals with notice. As part of BMGI's commitment to the privacy and security of information in BMGI's care, BMGI continue to review and enhance existing policies and procedures relating to data protection and security. BMGI has implemented additional security measures to mitigate risk associated with this event and to help prevent similar future incidents. BMGI has also notified relevant state and federal regulators as applicable.
Although there is no evidence of any actual or attempted identity theft or fraud of information, BMGI encourages potentially impacted individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud, to review account statements, and to monitor their credit reports and explanation of benefits over the next twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months for suspicious activity and to detect errors.
