KOREA AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES LTD., is a South Korean aerospace company, originally a JV of Samsung Aerospace, Daewoo Heavy Industries (aerospace division), and Hyundai Space and Aircraft Company (HYSA).
Since its foundation, KAI has been orienting itself towards the development of Korea’s aerospace industry, laying a groundwork for leaping to the global aerospace sector.
The basic KT-1 trainer, indigenously developed for the first time in Korea, as well as the T-50 aircraft, the home-grown supersonic advanced trainer has been developed by KAI and have been in operation by the Korean Air Force.
Furthermore, KAI succeeded in developing the Korean Utility Helicopter (Surion) project, Korea’s first home-grown helicopter and started to mass produce this type of helicopters in 2012. Additionally, KAI successfully won orders for these helicopters from the Korean National Policy Agency as a follow up project and expanded its business scope to the public helicopter market.
In the civil aircraft market, KAI aggressively participated in the international joint development of the ultra-high tech aircraft, A350s and B787s and succeeded in further consolidating a strategic partnership with the world’s leading aircraft makers, Boeing and Airbus.
