Southern African Shipyards is the largest Shipyard in Southern Africa and still holds the record for constructing the largest ship ever built on the African Continent.

Southern African Shipyards provides complete in house Marine Solutions through their Ship Building, Ship Repair, Naval Maintenance, Mechanical and fabrication and Oil & Gas departments. Their yard is ISO 9001-2008 certified and has a Level 2 BBBEE Rating.

The company’s has been involved in several projects, like:

Mega Luxury Yachts (1987 – 2002) - Southern African Shipyards completed 14 vessels and transported them to Holland. All vessels are manufactured to the same stage of completion.

Tug Contract (1999 to 2003) - Five Voith Schneider Tugs for Portnet were built by SAS for SAFBUILD (PTY) LTD, a joint venture company between Southern African Shipyards (PTY) LTD and SAFREIGHT (PTY) LTD.

Transnet Tug Contract (2007 - 2011) - Total of seven Voith Schneider Tugs built with a 70 tonne ballard pull.

Southern African Shipyards' ship repair activities include: Blasting and Coating; Dry-Docking;; Electrical Services; Pipe Replacement.
