New York, NY (December 23, 2020) Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, spoke with Dr. John Whyte, Chief Medical Officer of WebMD.

In this new 15-minute video appearance Fauci discussed:

    --  Herd Immunity possible by end of June or early July.  [13:02] Depending
        on a smooth vaccine roll-out, people could start scheduling weddings and
        events by late June or July.


    --  Priority groups should get a vaccine between now and March. April will
        be "open season" when anyone who wants a vaccine can get one.  "If we do
        it correctly, we could have 70%-85% of the population vaccinated. When
        that occurs, there will be an 'umbrella of protection' over the entire
        country that the level of virus will be so low that you will essentially
        have been able to establish herd immunity."




    --  Scientists should watch the Covid variant in the UK carefully, but
        travel bans are "an overreaction."  [10:49]It appears that (the variant)
        has a better capability of transmitting but no evidence that it is more
        virulent or that it will evade the protection of a vaccine.   "The
        European union is banning travel from the UK. I think that may be an
        overreaction now.  I would not be against at least seriously considering
        making sure that people who fly here or come here from the U.K. to the
        United States that you require they be tested before they get on the
        plane so that you know they're negative when they get here."
