Dr. Pankaj Naram Reviews Recent Study on the Dangers of Artificial Sweeteners

NEW YORK, June 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Medical experts often aim to educate their patients about how the substances that they consume may impact health. These professionals know that when individuals neglect to give their bodies proper nutrition, or when they instead pump themselves full of chemicals, it can have a severe impact on their overall health. These choices can harm an individual's health both immediately and in the long term. Experts like Dr. Pankaj Naram have a deep understanding of the connection between eating habits and an individual's overall health, wellness, happiness, and longevity. This is why Dr. Pankaj Naram is always pleased when new studies confirm what he has taught about the long term consequences of their choices, especially when it comes to diet. For example, a recent study reveals the dangers of drinking diet sodas and other artificially sweetened products, something Dr. Naram encourages people to stay away from.

The study is entitled Sugar-Sweetened and Artificially Sweetened Beverages in Relation to Stroke and Dementia. This study sought to discover what kinds of long term maladies could be developed as a result of over-indulging in the chemicals that are used in artificial sweeteners, specifically those that are used in diet sodas. This study was conducted to challenge the claims that diet beverages are a healthier alternative to sugar added soft drinks, and to add to other research that has suggested a negative impact of diet drinks and artificial sweeteners. To find their results the researchers analyzed data from the Framingham Offspring Cohort. Namely they analyzed questionnaires from patients who had used artificial sweeteners and consumed diet drinks over various lengths of time and compared this information to data sets revealing which study participants had been victims of stroke or had suffered from forms of dementia.

The researchers observed that there were distinct links between the consumption of the artificial sweeteners and a heightened risk of heart disease. They also saw a connection between the over indulgence in diet drinks and the occurrences of dementia. They saw similar correlations when they accounted for variables like whether the participants were smokers, and what their level of physical activity was. However when accounting for other variables like the existence of diabetes, the results were not as defined, leaving room for further research and discovery on this topic.

While partially inconclusive, this study has certainly given the medical field a new area of interest to further research, and experts like Dr. Pankaj Naram are interested in seeing what else may be discovered about the subject in later studies. Follow up studies could reveal other possible dangers behind artificial sweeteners, and will be able help more individuals avoid these health threats. Dr. Naram has always believed in the importance of proper diet, and consuming foods and beverages free of chemicals and other harmful substances. He recommends that his patients avoid not only artificially sweetened beverages but all soft drinks, and he also has his own diet guide to assist his patients with healthy living.
