Older and Wiser, Assisi Animal Health Discusses Aging in Canines
PINEHURST, N.C., June 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Assisi Animal Health, developer of the Assisi Loop®, an effective non-pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory device (NPAID®) that works as magnetic therapy for dogs, discusses how to make your senior dog more comfortable.
Time passes quickly, suddenly your young spirited walking companion is getting up more slowly, and seems reluctant to share in those ball fetching moments. If indeed, 1 human year equates to 7 in a dog, do the math! Here are 8 helpful hints to ease the aging pains:
1. Make a "senior dog" appointment with your vet. Go armed with the symptoms and changes you are noticing and have a frank discussion on what you can do to help. 2. Every breed, no matter size, needs to stay in condition. Exercise is key to fitness, regardless of age. If your dog is used to fast paced runs or ball throwing, change the routine to daily walks where you can easily observe fatigue or lameness. 3. Acquire a new bed, one with upgraded cushioning and possibly even a therapeutic pillow. Re-position the bed so it is near where you spend the most time; this avoids your dog's desire to jump up on a couch or chair to be near you. 4. If your home is difficult to access, consider a ramp to accommodate your dog's ease of getting onto the porch. Similarly, if the car door seems to cause your dog to hesitate, look into the many ramps available to ease your dog's entry. 5. Change of diet is frequently used to help aging complaints. Today's dog food has helpful additives for joints and senior diets can assist in weight control. Ask your vet about additional supplements that might provide benefits for pain and inflammation. 6. Keep your dog groomed. Aging pets usually love the quiet time with you and when done consistently, the sessions can be short. This is also a great time to check for any abnormalities on your dog's body and deal with them before they become serious 7. Wardrobe change! As dogs age, they frequently feel the extremes of hot and cold. If your dog is shaking or reluctant to go outside, consider buying a coat for cold weather. Remember, shaving a dog that carries heavy coat is NOT a good answer to keeping cool. Their coat is insulation and protects exposure from too much sun directly on the skin. Trimming is fine, but shaving to the skin should be avoided. 8. If you have large expanses of tile or hardwood floors, use runners or throw rugs to help your elder statesman keep his footing.
When discussing stiffness or pain with your veterinarian, ask about the Assisi Loop, a non-pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory device (NPAID) that uses FDA cleared human technology for the control of pain and inflammation. Lightweight and easy to use, the Assisi Loop lets you "take the healing home."
