Edeniq Reiterates Message to EPA to Set the 2018 Cellulosic RVOs to Actual Expected Production Level

Edeniq, Inc., a leading cellulosic and biorefining technology company, announced today that it submitted written comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) in response to the EPA’s Notice of Data Availability (“NODA”) published in the Federal Register on October 4, 2017.

In addition to stating its support for, and alignment with, comments filed by certain biofuel industry organizations, Edeniq urged the EPA to finalize the 2018 annual renewable volume obligations (“RVOs”) in such a way that sends a strong market signal to help drive continued investment and production in biofuels. Edeniq stressed the importance for EPA to ensure it sets the 2018 cellulosic RVO at the level which reflects actual expected production next year. To this end, Edeniq told EPA it should set the 2018 cellulosic RVO at the level contained in EPA’s original 2018 RFS proposal sent to the Office of Management and Budget in May, which cited 384 million gallons of D3 RIN-eligible cellulosic biofuels.

Edeniq’s President and CEO, Brian Thome, stated, “This is a crucial time for the biofuels industry, especially for cellulosic biofuels. While I am encouraged by the letter EPA Administrator Pruitt sent to several Midwestern Senators last week, we strongly encourage the EPA to make the necessary adjustment to the cellulosic RVO in its final rule due out by the end of next month.”

Mr. Thome further stated that, “Edeniq’s customers that are already registered with the EPA have more than 500 million gallons per year of nameplate ethanol capacity and are averaging more than one percent cellulosic ethanol. They have produced millions of gallons of cellulosic ethanol in 2017, with tens of millions expected in 2018. An accurate estimate of expected cellulosic production in 2018 will provide investors and producers with the confidence they need to continue the growth trajectory that this industry has developed in support of our country’s economic, environmental, and national security benefits.”
