PLEASANTON, Calif., Dec. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Leaf Healthcare, maker of a wearable patient monitoring system that's been named one of the world's most innovative medical devices for pressure injury prevention, announced the formation of a Clinical Advisory Board to provide input on product development and clinical strategies. The first members are Tracey Yap, PhD, RN, FAAN and Susan Kennerly, PhD, RN, FAAN.

Yap and Kennerly have partnered in clinical research to enhance the quality of care delivered by nurses. Their work includes studies on nurse-led pressure injury prevention initiatives, the development of a tool to assess the nursing culture in healthcare settings, and factors influencing nursing staff use of technology in the clinical practice.
Yap is an associate professor in the Duke University School of Nursing and a Senior Fellow in the Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development. She is a board member of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and the Southern Nursing Research Society and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Kennerly is a professor in the Department of Nursing Science at the East Carolina University College of Nursing. She is wound care certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Turn protocols are critical to reduce the incidence of pressure injuries, one of the most common and preventable hospital- and nursing home acquired conditions, affecting up to 10 percent of U.S. hospital patients and adding $11 billion to annual U.S. healthcare costs. Pressure injuries occur when pressure constricts blood flow to the skin over a bony region, eventually leading to tissue death.
