USAF Awards Alion $41M Supply Chain Contract

409th Supply Chain Management Engineering Office Awards $41M to Alion to Support Critical Air Force Supply Chain Needs

As fielded systems and aircraft continue to age, reliability, maintainability, and sustainability are consistent logistics concerns for the United States Air Force (USAF). To meet these logistical challenges and improve warfighter readiness, the USAF 409th Supply Chain Management Engineering Office (409 SCMS) has awarded Alion Science and Technology a $40.9 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to provide subject matter expertise, engineering, and detailed analysis of life-limiting issues associated with the C-130, C-5, C-17, and F-15 fleets.

The 58-month contract covers a broad range of tasks, including requirements evaluation, planning, logistics, engineering, testing, prototyping, and data management. To meet these requirements, Alion will draw on teammates BAE Systems, Raytheon, National Technical Systems (NTS), and Southern Research Institute (SR)— a team that brings decades of direct, relevant technical experience, much of it accrued in support of the 409 SCMS mission.

“We’ve been supporting the 409th through other programs for several years at Robins Air Force Base, improving processes and providing critical engineering solutions,” explains Jeremy Trotter, technical director of Alion’s Manufacturing Systems and Operations Division. “This program will allow us to continue and expand our efforts, improving reliability and maintainability for the fleet and making life easier for the warfighter.”

The Alion team will bring insight of legacy systems and component interoperability to engineer obsolescence and reliability solutions using state-of-the-art design, systems engineering, and logistics techniques developed on similar programs. In the lead role, Alion will provide program management and expertise in engineering and detailed analysis of life-limiting issues associated with C-130, C-5, C-17, and F-15 weapon systems.

The Alion Team offers 409th SCMS a high level of program, engineering, and logistical support from a known and trusted team whose members have continually served this customer for more than 20 years. With comprehensive experience across all 409th SCMS platforms, the 409th will be better positioned to achieve their critical mission providing streamlined end-to-end warfighter support, maintaining the readiness status of the avionics of front-line aircraft, and ensuring that the USAF realizes the maximum life cycle benefits for each platform.
