MTF Biologics Distributes More Than 550,000 Tissue Grafts in 2017, Saving and Healing a Record Number of Lives

EDISON, N.J., Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- MTF Biologics, the world's largest tissue bank, is celebrating a monumental milestone in its efforts to save and heal lives. The organization distributed more than 550,000 tissue grafts in 2017 - the most in its history. The transplantable tissues, created from donated human skin, bone, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and placental tissues, were used in a multitude of orthopedic procedures, post-mastectomy breast reconstructions and to heal wounds in approximately 400,000 people in more than 50 countries.

"We are proud to have provided the medical community the largest number of life enhancing tissue grafts in our history last year," said Bruce Stroever, President and Chief Executive Officer of MTF Biologics. "As we celebrate our successes, we must acknowledge the generous acts of donors and donor families. A single tissue donor has the capacity to save or heal the lives of up to 100 individuals. The impact one donor can make is phenomenal, and we encourage others to register to give the gift of life."

The tissue grafts MTF Biologics prepared and distributed in 2017 were made possible through the selfless gift of donation by more than 5,700 individuals. MTF Biologics works with a network of 30 organ and tissue procurement agencies. Since 1987, it has received tissue from more than 125,000 donors and distributed more than 8 million transplantable grafts that have been used in applications including repairing sports injuries and damaged spines and treating oncology patients and burn victims.

MTF Biologics' more than 1,100 employees include scientists, technicians and engineers who collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, plastic and reconstructive surgeons and wound healing specialists to innovate new ways to use donated tissue to improve patient healing and outcomes. Its commitment to the research and development of advanced tissues has led to its steady growth. Since MTF Biologics' founding, more than 6 million people have benefitted from donated tissues it has distributed.

"MTF Biologics has been dedicated to advancing the science of tissue regeneration for 30 years," said William W. Tomford, M.D., Chairman of the MTF Biologics Board of Directors. "We are committed to working with physicians and surgeons worldwide to expand how we enhance care and improve outcomes for patients."
