Kansas City Area Family Enjoys Big Splash
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Schloegel Design Remodel (SDR), a Kansas City-based home remodeling business, is proud to reveal the finished remodel of its Big Splash Custom Bathroom Giveaway for 2018.
The Coots family of Belton, Mo, were raising their two sons, Jonathan (17) and Joseph (2), both with Spina Bifida, in their home without bathroom modifications that could make it easier and safer to care for some of the unique needs of their sons.
That all changed when the family found out that they would be this year's recipient of the Schloegel Design Remodel Big Splash Custom Bath Giveaway. For the past six years, the team at Schloegel Design Remodel has given a complete bathroom make-over to families in the area who have children with special needs.
After three weeks of work gutting and renovating the Coots' bathroom, the family finally got to see their new bathroom this week.
The tub was removed in favor of a more wheelchair friendly shower, complete with teak seat. The shower's new fixtures include a handheld shower, which makes helping someone bath or bathing while seated much easier.
The doorway was widened and replaced with a pocket door to keep it out of the way.
Towel and toilet paper holders were replaced with stylish, yet functional grab bars.
The new bathroom is now as functional for the boys as it is beautiful!
Schloegel co-owner Chris Peterson said the Coots family was one of three metro families who benefited this year from the Big Splash Custom Bath Giveaway.
The other two families received smaller upgrades - a wider entry door and new shower - as part of what Peterson refers to as the ripple effect of the Big Splash.
