Safety Pool Cover Company, LOOP-LOC, Shares Tips for Choosing the Right Pool Equipment

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., March 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- LOOP-LOC, manufacturer of safety pool covers that services New Jersey, shares tips for choosing the right pool equipment.

Pump

Choosing the proper pool pump is a matter of taking some measurements and following a few equations. You want a pump that can filter all the water in your pool within eight hours. First, figure out how many gallons of water are in your pool. The equation to follow varies slightly based on the shape of your pool:

    -- Rectangular: Gallons = length x width x average depth x 7.5
-- Oval: Gallons = longest diameter x shortest diameter x average depth x
        6.7
    -- Circular: Gallons = diameter x diameter x average depth x 5.9
    -- Kidney-shaped: Gallons = (longest width + shortest width) x length x
        average depth x 3.38

To calculate the average depth of your pool, add the depth of the shallow end to the depth of the deep end--dividing this total by 2. After you have calculated the total number of gallons in your pool, divide that number by 8 to determine how many gallons per hour (GPH) your pool pump should filter. Most pool pump manufacturers market their pumps in gallons per minute (GPM), so you will need to divide by 60 to convert the measurement.

Then, you must measure Total Dynamic Head (TDH)--a measurement of resistance--that is basically the amount of resistance that your pool pump experiences when it pulls water from your pool and then pushes it back in. Measure the length of the pipes in your pool, add the totals together and then divide them by 3. You will need all this information to select your pool pump.

Filter

There are several filters available, including diatomaceous earth (DE), sand, or cartridge. While DE filters are the most expensive, they are known to get the water the cleanest. Cartridge filters are the lowest maintenance and should last two to four years with proper care. Sand filters are the least expensive but will not clean your pool water as well. For the least maintenance, purchase the largest filter that your pool and pump can handle. It will clean the pool water more thoroughly, clog less often, and require less work.

Check the manufacturer's specifications to make sure that the maximum flow rate of the filter you are considering is suitable for the size of your pool pump.
