Vircom's modusGate now Includes Display Name Phishing Protection, an Enhanced Malicious URL Scan, DMARC Reporting and more

MONTREAL, June 21, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Vircom is today announcing new additions to its market-leading modusGate on-premise email security gateway, with the addition of an enhanced Malicious URL Scan, DMARC Reporting, Display Name Phishing Protection, a new User Interface and Threat Dashboard, and fundamental improvements in core accuracy and speed of processing which all push the capacities of On-Premise Email Security further into the future.

While many on-premise email security deployments have been relegated to the "legacy" graveyard, Vircom's development team has continued to improve its offering with this 6.5 release of modusGate. Improvements include updates to core Avira and Bitdefender AV engines, population and authentication support for Office 365 AD, additional security to counter the recently revealed "Mailsploit" exploit, and improvements to the core SPF and DKIM engines, further bolstering modusGate's DMARC capabilities.

On the other hand, new features include an enhanced Malicious URL Scan. When emails pass through modusGate's secure email gateway, emails containing links directed to malicious hosted content will now be filtered, protecting users from some of the cleverest ways of delivering phishing messages and malware. modusGate's Malicious URL Scan incorporates threat intelligence drawn from the activity of over three billion devices daily, where malware, unwanted software and social engineering content are efficiently filtered and reported, adding another layer of knowledge on which modusGate can evaluate and filter out malicious emails and their senders.

modusGate 6.5 will also include DMARC Reporting, building on the release of DMARC policy-setting in modusGate 6.4. With DMARC Reporting, modusGate administrators can now analyze the mass of data produced by DMARC analysis and more precisely determine trends and risks present in mail flowing toward their users. "DMARC is at the cutting edge of mass email authentication, and something that can be critical to all organizations in not only assuring that they receive authentic email, but also that they are not being misrepresented or impersonated to the outside world," adds Vircom CEO Mike Petsalis. "Organizations of all sizes are finally coming to realize the massive value DMARC provides in securing email through advanced authentication, discovering the good and bad ways their sending domains are used, and also creating a community of organizations that securely send and receive email on an internet-wide scale."

On top of these additions, modusGate 6.5 also includes Display Name Phishing Protection and a brand-new User Interface. Display Name Phishing Protection allows organizations to specify high-authority users who are more frequently targeted by email spoofing, impersonation and phishing threats, allowing for a higher degree of filtering for this high-value subset of users. modusGate's new User Interface is what brings all the above features together, enabling every administrator with an intuitive user interface that introduces the highest possible degree of accurate visualization and management to modusGate, further simplifying the ways in which Vircom helps IT administrators and partners get their jobs done. This UI's Threat Dashboard also permits customers and partners to have an up-to-the-minute understanding of what type of email threats their organizations face and where the latest threats are coming from, further driving the value modusGate offers in confronting new and existing security risks.

"Though cloud email security is increasingly popular because of its ease of use and implementation, the spread of data protection laws and the suspicions of the everyday admin mean that there still is and will always be a place for on-premise email security in organizations of all sizes," says Marc Chouinard, Vircom's Head of Email Security Operations. "modusGate 6.5 brings forward advanced features that are crafted directly to the technical needs of the everyday IT admin, the unsung heroes who form not only the bulk of our own customer base, but also of the IT experts that serve most organizations worldwide."

"While other organizations are writing off their on-premise products and Vircom is seeing expansion in its own modusCloud cloud email security offering, many customers still express significant interest in powerful On-Premise protection that maximizes their control ," adds Mr. Petsalis. "On-Premise security will always have a place for many organizations, and modusGate continues to present the best-value offering for many looking for advanced filtering with outstanding support and an industry-leading customer experience." Indeed, while customer feedback and retention rates speak loudly to what Mr. Petsalis identifies as key for Vircom, the low frequency of successful attacks against Vircom's customers only bolsters this truth.
