Illinois American Water Completing $1.2 Million Investment in Sadorus; Flushing of Water System Begins

Illinois American Water’s efforts to connect the Sadorus water system to the Champaign County water distribution system are nearing completion. The investment of approximately $1.2 million included installing about three miles of water main to connect the two systems.

The Environmental Protection Agency has inspected the new 8-inch water main and approved permitting. Illinois American Water will flush the water main and entire Sadorus water system beginning Thursday Aug. 2, 2018. This work will continue for several weeks.

According to Dave Farrar, senior manager of field operations and production, flushing the water system entails sending a rapid flow of water through the water mains and fire hydrants. Fire hydrants are also checked and operated to support fire protection in the community

No interruptions in water service will occur as a result of the work. Illinois American Water advises that when crews are flushing nearby, customers may experience a temporary drop in water pressure or draw some discolored water for a short period of time. If this does occur, it is recommended that customers let their cold water run to clear before using it again and refrain from doing laundry during that time.

Illinois American Water acquired the Village of Sadorus water system at the end of March 2017. Future investment projects in Sadorus will include upgrading undersized, outdated water mains. New fire hydrants will also be installed to enhance fire protection.

Farrar said, “When Sadorus entrusted us with its water system, we made a commitment to provide the best product possible. This investment will help improve the taste and odor of Sadorus’ drinking water.”

Customers are being notified of the system flushing via media outreach, customer calls and information on Illinois American Water's website at www.illinoisamwater.com. Information is also provided to customer service center representatives at 1-800-422-2782.
