EVERFI Kicks Off National Character Challenge Inviting Teachers to Bully-Proof Their Schools

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, EVERFI Inc., the leading technology innovator used in 1 in 7 schools nationwide, announced The Character Challenge, inviting teachers across the country to share how they are bully-proofing their classrooms and schools. The Character Challenge, introduced during Bullying Prevention Month, builds on the impact of the digital course which educates students on maintaining healthy relationships, Character Playbook(TM), powered by EVERFI and presented by the NFL and United Way. The effort is an opportunity for schools to show their local NFL teams and local United Ways how they plan to bully-proof their schools this year.

"We cannot afford to assume young people have the skills needed to establish positive and healthy relationships. More importantly, we have all seen what can happen when young people are not empowered with these skills," said EVERFI Co-Founder and President of Global Partnerships, Jon Chapman. "With this challenge, we want to celebrate how teachers and students across the country are exercising lessons learned through Character Playbook to prevent and protect students from the devastating impact of bullying."

New York Giants safety Michael Thomas invited teachers to participate in The Character Challenge during his visit with the United Way of New York City and one of Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem's 7(th) grade classes where he discussed the importance of positive character development, the lessons learned through Character Playbook(TM) and the role educators play in supporting young people as they explore how to manage their relationships.

The Character Challenge aims to celebrate and reward the good work that students and teachers are doing to further educate, prepare, and support students during their critical adolescent years. During this challenge, schools and classes will be tasked to share their plans, progress and results via social media using the hashtag #BullyProofSchools. Winners in each local market will receive a special prize from their local NFL team and United Way.

According to EVERFI analysis of Character Playbook data, students that initially revealed deficiencies in managing & building healthy relationships showed an average of a 21 percent increase in positive attitudes about relationships after taking the digital course. Additionally, these students indicated a 17 percent increase in preparedness to deal with conflicts and communication in a healthy way.

To date, more than 250,000 students have taken Character Playbook(TM) digital course focused on helping student maintain healthy relationships. For more information on the Character Challenge and the Character Playbook course go to CharacterPlaybook.com.
