Just Launched: On-The-Go Storytelling Course for Families
VIENNA, Nov. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Little Lights Studio, a storytelling studio producing high-quality children's content, is excited to introduce the world's first storytelling course designed specifically for moms, dads and the kids. The course is offered as a series of podcasts that can be accessed through the "Bedtime Stories read & tell" mobile app, which is available in the iOS App Store. The course is the first of its kind and was created to bolster imaginations, improve literacy skills and tackle difficult topics - all through the influence of a parent. The project was funded with a grant from the Vienna Business Agency; the course is free and can be accessed by downloading the app.
While "storytelling" is a buzz word amongst business leaders and marketers these days, there are few storytelling resources designed specifically for parents to use when spending time with their children. The course is part of an initiative, called the Storytelling School, that provides families with not only audio lessons, but unlimited access to dozens of stories and characters written and illustrated by authors from around the world and a proprietary "Storybuilder Tool" - also housed within the app.
"Since we launched the Bedtime Stories app, we've continued to hear from parents who struggle with telling an original, creative story to their kids," said Michael Sokolar, founder and CEO. "We're responding to their needs by introducing the The Storytelling School - a tool we've created to equip families with exercises and lessons that teach how to structure a story, create characters and set genres. Ultimately, we want to unlock parents' creativity, while at the same time, encourage them to spend quality time with their kids."
While most won't argue there's benefits of bedtime stories for children, The Storytelling School provides book-reliant parents the extra support they need to courageously create and tell their own stories. Research shows there's benefits to this - especially amongst dads. A 2004 study published in the Early Childhood Education Journal found that children whose parents told the stories themselves, as opposed to reading them, found gains in oral language and "improved story comprehension in their retelling." Those who were read to improved language complexity.
A 2015 Harvard study found there's even more benefits for the kids when the stories come from dad.
