The two-year initiative has already upgraded the city’s intersections to Iteris’ industry-leading intersection management devices, including the deployment of traffic controllers, video detection sensors, Bluetooth and fiber-optic communications devices and systems, CCTV cameras, and two new traffic management center video walls. The project will also ensure the city’s transportation infrastructure is compatible with the next generation of connected and autonomous vehicles. With the continuation of the project, Iteris will be helping College Station extend its fiber communication network and installing digital message signs (DMS) along key corridors to get vital information to motorists during incidents and special events such as Texas A&M football games. This technology is critical to the movement of vehicles after each A&M football game since the freeway system is located over a mile away from the stadium.

“We are thrilled to entrust Iteris with the design, upgrade and deployment of key transportation systems and infrastructure across our city’s intersections,” said Troy Rother, traffic engineer at the City of College Station. “As the home of Texas A&M University, it is vital that College Station leads the way in transportation innovation. And with Iteris’ state-of-the-art detection and traffic management systems, residents can expect safer, more efficient mobility, as well as the reassurance that the city will be prepared for the next generation of connected vehicles.”

“We are pleased to be able to work alongside the City of College Station to provide systems to enhance safety and mobility in this vibrant university town,” said Nader Ayoub, regional vice president, Roadway Sensors at Iteris. “Texas is a key strategic market for Iteris and projects like this serve as a launchpad for statewide deployments of our advanced video detection and traffic management technology.”
