NAIAS Education Day Opens "Mobility Classroom" to Thousands of Students

DETROIT, Jan. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- A new generation of potential automotive thought leaders - grade school through college-level students - will have a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the future of the mobility industry at the 15(th) annual North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) Education Day on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019. Registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 18, 2019.

Sponsored by Ally, NAIAS Education Day gives students the opportunity to explore the latest automotive technologies and 750 vehicles on the show floor, as well as take part in hands-on activities offered at exhibits throughout the day. Pre- and post-lesson plans posted on the NAIAS Education Day website engage participating students long before and after their visit to the show.

"Last year, nearly 4,000 students from more than 70 schools participated in NAIAS Education Day," said 2019 NAIAS Chairman Bill Golling. "Education Day is more than simply a field trip for students; it's a valuable educational experience that motivates young people to start thinking about careers in the auto industry. It also offers students a better understanding of what goes into designing and building the mobility solutions of today and tomorrow."

Ally will round out the day of learning at the show by providing lessons in financial life skills to select NAIAS Education Day high school students. The company will offer sessions on credit and auto financing as part of its Ally Wallet Wise free financial education program. Wallet Wise teaches financial education basics in the areas of budget, credit, banking, investing and financing a vehicle through in-person sessions and online courses at AllyWalletWise.com.

Students and chaperones attending Education Day enjoy a discounted price of $13 per person, which includes a lunch coupon for pizza, chips and a soft drink. A total of 50 bus grants ($100) are available to registered schools (on first-come, first-served basis). NAIAS Education Day is the only time during the auto show when there will be a designated bus parking with shuttles to transport attendees to Cobo Center. Bus drivers are welcome to attend NAIAS Education Day (a ticket is required).
