Team GEOS Receives SOS Alert from a Male in Distress

MONTGOMERY, Texas, Feb. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- GEOS sets the standard for excellence once again when a distress call from a man in a remote area of Scotland was received. The 70-year-old pensioner activated his SPOT satellite emergency notification device (SEND) after suffering a medical emergency. "Within a minute of receiving the SOS from the device user, we called the United Kingdom's Mission Control Centre (MCC) and informed them of the activation," says GEOS - Response Operations Manager Emily Thompson. Until the rescue is complete, GEOS maintains contact with the responding search and rescue group. "We continue to receive updates on the rescue process and will update the device user and emergency contacts until the rescue is complete," reports Thompson. Unlike others who solely provide rescue services, GEOS - Response is the only operations center in the world who has maintained direct relationships with the official response agencies for each jurisdiction, allowing for the fastest possible response in time of need.

GEOS, who has been receiving SOS activations since 2007, has organized search and rescue efforts in more than 165 countries today. GEOS is the only organization with the ability to receive distress signals from SEND devices, and is now monitoring for over 21 partners like SPOT, Garmin, and Iridium.
