Key Trends in the Alternate Site Health Care Industry Revealed

FLORHAM PARK, N.J., March 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA), a leading health care services and software company focused on the alternate site health care provider marketplace, is pleased to share key industry trends were in the spotlight at its 16(th) Annual Business Summit at The Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada, March 6-8, 2019. Approximately 1,400 MHA long-term care, home infusion and specialty pharmacy Members and Business Partners joined the three-day meeting for engaged discussions and interactive breakouts led by an exceptional line-up of thought leaders including former National Security Affairs Director Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster and former Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy.

During the MHA Business Summit, key trends transforming the industry were identified and discussed, including:

-- Digital health innovations and patient care optimization have great
potential to advance each other - but for providers to know what
questions to ask is key: with a lot of activity in the market and
promises that digital innovations will help providers and patients
alike, it's vital for providers to be educated and pose critical
questions whether the innovations truly are fit to patients' needs and
lives and support smooth workflows. This year's Summit for the first
time offered attendees a full track exclusively dedicated to technology.
Shan Bhide, VP of Technology at SoftWriters, an MHA company, moderated
the well-attended Industry Partner Technology Track, enabling members to
explore advances in eHR/eMAR solutions, dispensing methods, trends in
packaging system integrations, and enhancements to long-term care
        pharmacy operations and workflows.
-- Patient and outcomes-driven payment models put a premium on clinical
understanding and integration of care: with the introduction of the
Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) model for skilled nursing
facilities going into effect on October 1, 2019, and the introduction of
the Home Health Provider Patient-Driven Grouping Models (PDGM), the
silo'ed approach to patient care that was emblematic of fee for service
models will no longer be sufficient for alternate site care providers to
compete effectively, let alone thrive, as explored in a number of
business breakouts this year. At the same time, providers with the
ability to document how modifiable risk in patients was successfully
addressed are forecast to see entry into an attractive tier of the
market, being rewarded for care coordination and clinical integration.
Also discussed in detail was how the new CMS payment system for SNFs is
expected to create a care environment for SNFs to focus on patients with
more complex needs - and in doing so rely more on their long-term care
pharmacy partners. These new payment models offer opportunities for
providers, but are expected to favor those who have the ability to
        impact and document clinical outcomes.

Michael J. Sicilian, MHA President, commented, "We were very excited to be able to offer a strong platform for our Members to engage with thought leaders, ideas and software solutions that can help enable success in a dynamic market where we see the convergence of trends such as integrated care models and digital health innovations. The strong Member turn-out for our 16(th) Annual Business Summit tells us the alternate site health care industry continues to embrace this unique opportunity to look around the corner, explore new ideas and solutions, and network."

Look for upcoming details on the 17(th) Annual MHA Business Summit to be held March 25-27, 2020, at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada.
