Announcing Franklin(TM) by Biomeme

PHILADELPHIA, April 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Biomeme, Inc., a leading manufacturer of portable end-to-end PCR solutions, announced it would be releasing it's latest field-ready solution for performing PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, and Isothermal tests called Franklin(TM). The decision to name Biomeme's next-gen thermocycler Franklin(TM) pays homage to Rosland Franklin, an English chemist and X-ray crystallographer who made significant contributions to the understanding of the molecular structures of DNA and RNA, although her contributions were largely recognized posthumously.

Starting today, Biomeme is excited to offer three different variations of their Franklin(TM) thermocycler depending on the color channel detection you require - one9, two9, and three9. These variations give organizations the freedom to start small with a 1-color (Green, FAM/SYBR), 9-well portable thermocycler and the ability to add up to two additional color channels (Amber, TexasRedX & Red, ATTO647N) in a matter of minutes. The remote upgrade is simple and quickly implemented via their companion app, Biomeme Go.

Biomeme Go is an intuitive smartphone mobile app that pairs wirelessly with Franklin(TM) where you can program custom thermocycling parameters, run experiments online or offline, view test result data, and sync data to the Biomeme Cloud. The Biomeme Cloud is a secure PCR software portal offering you the ability to manage your PCR data from multiple Biomeme thermocyclers using any web-enabled device. Additionally, the Biomeme Web API gives developers the freedom to build whatever they want or simply connect data between disparate systems. When combined, these PCR data management tools deliver increased flexibility, scalability and reliability regardless of location.

Just 3 lbs., hand-held, and battery-operated for maximum portability, Franklin(TM) provides users with a full day's work out in the field on a single charge. With the low cost, ease-of-use, and unparalleled field portability of the entire platform, Biomeme is uniquely poised to rapidly advance One Health initiatives in emerging diseases, agro-surveillance, as well as emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.

"Biomeme is not trying to compete with high-volume throughput use cases in a centralized lab," says Max Perelman, Co-Founder and Business Lead at Biomeme. "Our use cases are usually time-sensitive or location-sensitive situations where the real-time results are actionable. Thus, we focused on meticulously developing a lightweight device that delivers results in 30-45 minutes, requires no additional lab equipment or special training, and focuses heavily on onsite portability where no electricity, centrifuge, or cold chain are required. I'm really thrilled to introduce Franklin(TM) and I'm genuinely excited to see the impact it has on real-world problems like bio-threat surveillance, environmental monitoring, and more."

Biomeme has been developing advanced mobile detection and real-time disease surveillance solutions for researchers, enterprises, and governments since 2012. The company revealed that in addition to Franklin(TM), they will soon be offering their new M1 Sample Prep form factor which takes just a few minutes to complete and also eliminates the need for expensive lab equipment such as centrifuges, vortexers and heat blocks. Instead, the single-use cartridge utilizes a filtration based method in which nucleic acids selectively bind to the silica membrane inside Biomeme's proprietary M1 Sample Prep columns. Subsequent washes through a sequence of specially formulated buffers yield high quality purified nucleic acids upon elution. Stay tuned for future updates on general availability.
