Meggitt Training Systems Quebec to Highlight Virtual and Live-Fire Portfolio at Two Ottawa Events

Meggitt Training Systems Quebec will conduct demonstrations of its industry-leading simulators and live-fire solutions during Rampart’s Range Day and Expo at Stittsville Shooting Ranges on May 28, followed by CANSEC 2019 at the EY Centre on May 29-30.

“At a time when members of Canadian Armed Forces and law enforcement face increasing threats at home and abroad, Meggitt’s portfolio of virtual and live-fire products helps maximize readiness,” said Ed Duckless, president of Meggitt Training Systems Quebec. “Visitors to our Rampart and CANSEC displays in Ottawa can experience how we enable improved small-arms marksmanship, judgmental and collective skills.”

Rampart attendees will have the opportunity to view and fire at Meggitt’s Stationary Infantry Target. The SIT is a remote-controlled pop-up target actuator, capable of supporting a variety of U.S. and NATO target silhouettes. The infantry target adapts to a variety of range environments, infrastructures and operational constraints, and does not contain hydraulic fluids, contaminants or hazardous toxins. Lightweight and portable, SITs are easily transported and stacked for deployment or storage. The SIT performs all standard target commands such as expose, conceal, hit-fall, hit-hold and hit-bob. The user can easily program any combination of commands in scenario mode without affecting the default settings.

Meggitt products to be highlighted at CANSEC 2019 (booth 211) include:

  • Building upon Meggitt’s well established capabilities as the small-arms trainer system of record for the Canadian Army, the FATS 100MIL is a major expansion in weapons training capability, introducing revolutionary features such as advanced game engine 3-D marksmanship, enhanced diagnostics with intelligent automatic coaching and VBS3-based collective training. In addition, the FATS 100MIL allows assignment of Meggitt’s patented wireless BlueFire® weapons to each trainee. The FATS 100MIL forms the basis for programs of record with the US Army, US Marine Corps and others.
  • The GranTrap granulated rubber bullet trap utilizes soft media to stop incoming rounds and capture them predominantly intact. This minimizes airborne lead dust, averts back-splatter and ricochet, and minimizes impact noise. The result is a cleaner and safer environment for shooting ranges, maximizing bullet recovery and recycling processes.
  • The Multi-Function Stationary Infantry Target (MF-SIT) System with LOMAH (location of miss and hit). The MF-SIT has the unique ability to expose from multiple angles with a friend-or-foe target. Movements are precise, dynamic and respond quickly to commands of expose, conceal, slice and turn in any combination. In addition, the MF-SIT will rotate a regulation infantry target through 360 degrees at multiple angles. It can respond to hits; its automatic triggers activated by shooter movements or a pre-programmed scenario. This ensures that trainees do not anticipate target actions, which provides a realistic environment for specialized training. The LOMAH system adds shot scoring by measuring the precise time of a bullet’s supersonic shock wave passing over a ballistically protected microphone sensor array. It can be installed easily via a retrofit kit or on new, LOMAH-capable Meggitt targets.
