Adolfson & Peterson Construction Cuts the Ribbon on the New Aurora Central Recreation Center
AURORA, Colo., May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Thursday afternoon, with the help of city officials, community members and the project team, Adolfson & Peterson Construction cut the ribbon on the new Aurora Central Recreation Center. Ceremonial speeches were given by stakeholders such as Aurora Mayor Bob LeGare, Aurora Mayor Pro Tem Bob Roth, Deputy City Manager Nancy Freed and more.
The new 61,000-sf rec center, designed by Populous, is the first ground up recreation center constructed in over 40 years for the city. This state-of-the-art center features an interactive waterslide, which is the first of its kind in North America, and the first indoor wave pool in a recreation center in Colorado. Other program spaces include a gymnasium, two fitness studios, community meeting rooms, party rooms, a child watch room, new locker spaces including individual change rooms and an open lobby and reception desk with views to all the major program elements.
"We purchased this land in 1998 solely for a recreation center and are ecstatic that after some time, we are here today, cutting the ribbon and opening our doors," said Parks, Recreation & Open Space Director Tom Barrett. "This center is not only special for that reason, but because it was the voices in the community that really shaped what Central would become."
The facility is now a standing symbol of Aurora's goal to provide health and quality of life for its community.
