Fellowship Offers 700 Free Meetings in 32 Countries to Help You Stop Smoking or Vaping Nicotine

NEW PALTZ, N.Y., May 29, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Health officials recommend that nicotine users seek support to end their addiction. Nicotine Anonymous (NicA) is a non-profit 12-step fellowship open to anyone with a desire to stop using nicotine. Whether smoking, vaping, chewing, or using any nicotine product, anyone is welcome to join ongoing NicA meetings free of charge.

As the world's most widely used addictive drug, nicotine is as addictive as heroin (Council on Chemical Abuse). The World Health Organization reports that tobacco smoking kills more than seven million people a year worldwide. According to the report, "Nearly 80% of the more than 1 billion smokers worldwide live in low- and middle-income countries, where the burden of tobacco-related illness and death is heaviest."

Statisticsdatabase.com reports, "The number of people using e-cigarettes worldwide surged in five years, from 7 million in 2011 up to 35 million in 2016, and is estimated to continue to grow rapidly, up to 55 million e-cig users by 2021." This) increasing popularity of e-cigs and vaping has reversed years of steady progress in reducing rates of cigarette smoking, particularly among young people who become nicotine addicts.

NicA has grown in 37 years to over 700 ongoing, face-to-face groups in 32 countries. NicA also supports daily phone or Internet meetings, and thousands of members use social media to offer support to one another. Nicotine Anonymous: The Book, is available in English, Spanish, and Farsi--with Italian and Russian versions coming soon. NicA books and pamphlets, in multiple languages, are available at: http://www.nicotine-anonymous.org.

There are no dues or fees. Members may attend for as long as they find value in the program. Many members remain long after abstaining from nicotine in order to help struggling newcomers.

According to one member, "I was accepted in a NicA group while I continued to smoke for months. Finally, with members' support and inspiration, I became willing to stop smoking, one day at a time. If I had been able to quit on my own I would have done so years ago. I now have many years living free of nicotine and remain as a member."
