TORONTO, July 26, 2019 /CNW/ - This summer, Mercedes-Benz is partnering with top musical talent to bring the innovative what3words voice navigation system to the Canadian market. As the first manufacturer to adopt this cutting-edge system, it made perfect sense: In what3words, ingenuity and practicality work together in perfect harmony.
Sometimes, finding the correct location can be a challenge, even with a street address. The what3words system has assigned a unique three-word address to every 3 m x 3 m square of the planet, allowing users to find precise locations by using three words that are significantly easier to remember and input (by voice or text) than a typical street address. As the simplest way to describe a place, it takes the guesswork out of the navigation experience - whether that means finding the entrance to a building or locating a remote spot in the wilderness.
In order to arrive at a desired location, a driver simply has to use the voice command "Navigate to what3words," followed by the three-word address, which can be determined either by visiting what3words.com or by downloading the free what3words mobile app onto a phone. Currently, what3words voice navigation is available (in English only) on select new Mercedes-Benz vehicles that are equipped with the latest COMAND generation or MBUX infotainment system and linked to a Mercedes me account. These include the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, CLS, S-Class and G-Class, from model year 2019-on.
Mercedes-Benz Canada teamed up with artists to produce an original video series that demonstrates how what3words can be put into practice in people's daily lives. Kicking off the series, Montreal-based singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin uses "Hey Mercedes, navigate to what3words," followed by each unique 3-word address, to take the viewer on an adventure to some of her favourite spots in the city. As of mid-August, fans of Allie X will be able to follow her on a journey through Toronto, and in September The Strumbellas will lead viewers on their own tour of the city.
