Expert Outpatient Medical Care for Eating Disorders Expands to 30 States

DENVER, Aug. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Individuals with eating disorders across the United States now have access to highly specialized outpatient medical care through the groundbreaking use of telemedicine in 30 U.S. states. The Gaudiani Clinic's model allows for individuals throughout the country to have access to highly specialized medical care from two of the approximately five internal medicine physician eating disorder specialists in the world. Despite the fact that eating disorders carry the highest mortality of all mental illness, most physicians don't receive specialty training on the medical complications of eating disorders. These can range from gastrointestinal complications to bone density loss to life-threatening hypoglycemia and cardiac arrest.

"By offering expanded telemedicine care to individuals with eating disorders, we can ideally identify eating disorders at an earlier stage and offer compassionate, evidence-based care to help prevent unnecessary suffering and untimely death," said Dr. Jennifer Gaudiani, MD, CEDS-S, FAED, Founder and Medical Director of the Gaudiani Clinic. "Individuals with eating disorders benefit from a multi-disciplinary team approach where all aspects of care are addressed and patient values, including staying in outpatient care whenever possible, are taken into consideration."

The Clinic specializes in all medical complications of eating disorders and commonly co-occurring conditions, focused primary care needs (e.g., annual exams, sick visits, and screenings), and medical care for elite and recreational athletes facing concerns about fueling and/or performance issues, including Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S).
