Virtual Vocations Names 2018 Top States for Remote Work
TUSCON, Ariz., Aug. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Virtual Vocations, the web's No. 1 hand-screened, all-telecommute job board, is shedding light on the top 20 states for remote work.
In the company's latest report, entitled "Top 20 Remote Work States in 2018," Virtual Vocations reveals which states brought the most telecommute positions to its massive jobs database in 2018, and highlights the top telework industries and trending job titles in those locations.
"Telecommuting is on the rise nationwide, but some states stand out as hubs of remote work," said Laura Spawn, CEO and co-founder of Virtual Vocations. "By enacting policies that encourage telecommuting, like reimbursing remote professionals for the costs of relocating to their state and even offering tax breaks to businesses that allow flexible work arrangements, many of the states on our list are actively working to make telecommuting a viable career option for their residents--and that's good news not just for the local communities, but also for remote professionals and their families."
The company's report points to top industry data from 24/7 Wall St., annual mean wage data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) May 2018 State Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates report, and telecommuting population data from the U.S. Census 2017 American Community Survey to provide a comprehensive breakdown of where the most remote jobs are coming from and what telecommuters can expect in their quests for remote employment in those states.
Among those top locations for telework is California, where companies like Apple, Intel, and Oracle have made information technology the top industry for telecommuters.
But the Golden State isn't the only place where professionals can find remote work. Telecommuting is also particularly popular in Florida, where top job titles include solution architect, customer care representative, and bilingual health coach. More than 6% of Floridians telecommute, according to Virtual Vocations' report.
Rounding out the top five are Texas, where jobs in the oil and gas industry dominate; New York, which boasts an annual mean wage of over $61,000 per year; and Illinois, where large companies and start-ups alike provide remote jobs for nearly 5% of working professionals.
