DiversityEdu Expands Their Proven Diversity and Inclusion Online Courses into High Schools

NEW YORK, Oct. 1, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Inclusive school environments help students engage confidently with their peers and teachers of all backgrounds and identity groups. Students at inclusive high schools are better prepared for college and the diverse workplaces and communities they will eventually join. For DiversityEdu, the online education company already implementing courses at over fifty colleges nationwide, helping schools build inclusive culture with a new course for students was the logical--and highly anticipated--next step.

The high school student course builds off of the corresponding college student program from DiversityEdu, which has been deployed to over 100,000 course takers across the country. Videos, quizzes, and interactive exercises keep students engaged as they explore critical topics like examining assumptions based on stereotypes and microaggressions--subtle messages of exclusion so powerful that they create lasting harm to the recipient and lead to a toxic climate for all.

"When high schools approached us, we decided to use the same skill-building approach that has been proven successful with college students, but we geared the language and topics to high schoolers," explains Kate Chovanetz, CEO of DiversityEdu. "Our content is based on the latest research and is always relevant, engaging, and up to date. We believe that's what makes our learning so effective."

DiversityEdu's focus on relevance and engagement is working. The company recently announced the results of a randomized, mixed-methods study showing college students who took their course demonstrated statistically significant behavioral changes, like increased intent to engage with diversity and likelihood of intervening as an ally in a bias incident.

In addition to the online course for high school students, DiversityEdu is launching a course for high school teachers, guides for facilitating in-person workshops that are coordinated with the courses, and tools for managing the delivery of a holistic system for building an inclusive school.
