JetSMART Takes Delivery of First Airbus A320neo Aircraft Powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF™ Engines

TOULOUSE, France, October 4, 2019 – Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), and JetSMART celebrated delivery of the airline’s first Airbus A320neo aircraft, leased through SMBC Aviation Capital and powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines. The delivery ceremony took place in Toulouse with representatives from JetSMART, Airbus, SMBC Aviation Capital and Pratt & Whitney in attendance.

“We are delighted to welcome the first GTF-powered A320neo aircraft to our growing fleet and continue to build our relationship with Pratt & Whitney,” said Estuardo Ortiz, JetSMART CEO. “The efficiency gained with this new technology engine will allow us to provide our customers with lower fares as we continue our expansion across South America, while benefitting from lower fuel consumption and a reduced environmental footprint.”

JetSMART, founded by global private investment fund Indigo Partners, selected the GTF engine to power its order of 85 A320neo family aircraft in June 2019. Pratt & Whitney will also provide JetSMART with engine maintenance through a long-term EngineWise® Comprehensive service agreement. The airline currently operates a fleet of 11 A320ceo family aircraft powered by the V2500® engine.

“We truly appreciate the strong collaboration we have built with JetSMART since the airline’s inception,” said Rick Deurloo, chief customer officer and senior vice president, Customers at Pratt & Whitney. “We are excited for JetSMART to begin receiving the fuel savings with the GTF engine that will help the airline maintain its low cost approach and power its growth in the South American market.”

Since entering into service in early 2016, the GTF engine has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 50 percent compared to the regulatory standard, and to reduce the noise footprint by 75 percent.
