Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board Issues Tentative Order Renewing Permit for Huntington Beach Desal Project

Poseidon Water today issued the following statement regarding the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board’s Tentative Order amending and renewing the operating permit for the proposed Huntington Beach Desalination Project (“Project”).

“We are very grateful to the staff of the Regional Board as well as the State Water Board, Coastal Commission and State Lands Commission for their collective coordination and cooperation in developing this long-awaited permit renewal,” said Poseidon Water Vice President Scott Maloni. “We are one step closer to providing Orange County with a 100% drought-proof, climate-resilient new water supply project that includes the preservation of Bolsa Chica, a lynchpin in the state’s network of Marine Protected Areas and one of the most important coastal wetlands complexes in Southern California,” continued Maloni. “The Tentative Order is scientifically sound, includes an exhaustive environmental analysis of the Project and myriad of alternatives, and correctly finds the proposed facility complies with the California Ocean Plan and will by using the best available site, design, technology and mitigation measures feasible,” said Maloni.
