Kiewit Announces CEO Transition

Kiewit Corporation, one of North America’s largest and most respected construction and engineering companies, today announced that effective Jan. 1, 2020, Rick Lanoha, president and chief operating officer (COO), will assume the role of president and chief executive officer (CEO). He will succeed Bruce Grewcock, who will remain as chairman of the board of directors, a role he has held since 2013.

This is part of Kiewit’s ongoing leadership transition plan, which follows the company’s legacy of seamless, strategic transitions of executive leadership. During the company’s long, storied history, Lanoha will be the sixth executive to lead the company.

Since joining Kiewit in 1986, Lanoha, 52, has held several key leadership roles of increasing responsibility, including executive vice president of Kiewit Industrial Group, with responsibilities for the Kiewit Energy, Cherne, Contracting Corporation, Kiewit Power and The Industrial Company (TIC) divisions. He became president of Kiewit Energy Group in 2012, overseeing its two divisions — Kiewit Oil, Gas & Chemical and Kiewit Power — and was promoted to his current role in 2016. Rick was elected to Kiewit’s board of directors in 2009.

Grewcock, 65, joined Kiewit in 1982 as a chief engineer at Black Butte coal mine in Wyoming. He became president of Kiewit Mining Group in 1992, was elected to Kiewit’s board of directors in 1994, and named president and COO in 2000. He assumed the role of CEO in 2005 and has led the company to record levels of revenue, increasing from $4.1 billion that year to more than $9 billion in 2018.

Grewcock has been honored by receiving two of the most prestigious national awards in the construction industry. In 2016, the Beavers awarded Grewcock the Golden Beaver Award in Management — an honor bestowed upon leaders who demonstrate skill, integrity and support for young people entering the industry. In 2013, Grewcock received The Moles’ Award for his distinguished career in the construction industry.
