FlexJobs recommends the following tips while searching for remote jobs:
Focus on Keywords
To avoid online job scams, use keywords like "telecommute job," "remote job," "distributed team," and "virtual job." Avoid phrases that scammers use, specifically "work from home" and "work at home."
Feature Remote Work Skills
Add your remote job-friendly skills to your resume, cover letter, and online profiles, such as independent work, time management, written and verbal communication, troubleshooting abilities, and proactivity with questions and ideas. Include a list of remote-specific technology you're familiar with, such as IM programs (Slack, Google Chat), file sharing (Dropbox), document collaboration (Google Drive), video conferencing (Zoom, GoToMeeting, Skype), and other remote collaboration tools.
Successful Video Interviews
Log in early to make sure you've resolved any technical issues before the time of the interview. Be sure to smile and have natural facial expressions. Be prepared to talk about the methods and systems you use to keep yourself focused. How do you stay organized and on top of things? Talk about times when you've been a clear communicator, or you've been able to effectively persuade someone or effect change with written and verbal communication. Mention specific projects you've worked on remotely or at a distance from your collaborators.
