American Physician Partners Listed as Patient Safety Organization

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., May 22, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- American Physician Partners ("APP"), a leader in emergency medicine and hospital medicine management services, is pleased to announce the company has been listed as a Patient Safety Organization (PSO) by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The official entity is named American Physician Partners, Patient Safety Organization, LLC, (APP, PSO, LLC).

In 2005, Congress created the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act in response to the Institute of Medicine's report "To Err is Human" to encourage a culture of safety within organizations by establishing protections for healthcare providers who report vulnerabilities within their health system to a PSO listed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

In its continual pursuit of excellence in quality and patient safety, APP applied for PSO status in December 2019. After a rigorous application process, APP was granted a three-year PSO listing effective May 13, 2020, which will benefit the company's 2,500 healthcare providers and more than 160 hospital partners. This innovative, fully virtual, cloud-based environment fosters a culture of safety through the development of a system that allows for early reporting of adverse events, data analysis for trends of care, and development of best practices to be shared and implemented across APP. APP, PSO, LLC will provide a platform to enhance the quality and safety of patient care by:

-- Protecting the organization and its providers through participation in
        quality initiatives
-- Encouraging collaboration with the caregiver team surrounding adverse
        events
-- Mining quality data to share common trends in care
-- Developing best practices of care from lessons learned via event and
        data analysis

"APP's listing as a recognized PSO helps us further our mission to provide safe, compassionate and efficient care to every patient, every time," said Tony Briningstool, MD, FACEP, chief medical officer, APP. "True to our reputation for exceeding expectations, we are excited to have the opportunity to take this next step in demonstrating our commitment to exceptional patient care."
