How HFA is Mitigating the Risk of Spreading COVID-19 in its Offices

BENTONVILLE, Ark., June 18, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As a part of its ongoing commitment to sharing ideas and experiences throughout the architecture and engineering sector, HFA (Harrison French & Associates, LTD) recently appointed a team of architects, engineers, and other design professionals to produce valuable content for clients in a post-COVID-19 world.

In the last few installments of its Design Thinking blog series, HFA has explored techniques and solutions that can be put into place as stay-at-home orders are gradually lifted. The HFA team is taking a more detailed look at these solutions by examining the changes made at its offices in Bentonville, AR, Franklin, MA, and Fort Worth, TX.

"Hands-free solutions and proper ventilation and filtration have been shown to decrease the likelihood of spreading infectious diseases, like SARS-CoV-2, significantly. A common mode of transmission is proven to come from respiratory droplets passed through the air, which makes it essential to look at both plumbing and ventilation and filtration solutions when heeding recommendations for updates around your office," said Greg Schluterman, P.E., LEED AP BD&C, CxA, ASHRAE BEAP & BEMP.

As more and more employees begin to return to their offices, architects and engineers must be continually looking for solutions that can mitigate the risk of spreading SARS-CoV-2 throughout their offices, whether that's from a ventilation and filtration aspect, plumbing fixtures, or sanitation practices for frequently touched surfaces.

However, caution should be heeded when thinking through solutions because not all solutions will be ideal for every location or budget. The HFA leadership team recently came together to put a plan into place to ensure that their employees' health is the number one priority when bringing them back to the workplace. So, when considering solutions for your workplace or your client's workplaces, we strongly urge you to think through any overarching factors before deciding on a solution.

Schluterman concludes by saying, "Determining the appropriate course of action in this post-COVID-19 era is difficult, but not impossible. We encourage you to look to others within the industry that know solutions that best fit your company's specific needs, whether that means from a budget standpoint or any other non-negotiable you may have."

Here at HFA, with 30 years of experience to draw on from the retail, restaurant, commercial, and real estate industries, we believe that we're uniquely positioned to use our knowledge and expertise to help further the architecture industry as a whole, especially in this post-pandemic era.
