Formerly incarcerated citizens deserve voting rights and jobs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Florida-based nonprofit, Reflecting Freedom Network, (RFN) announced on Monday that it will provide free web-based job skills and career training to the state's formerly incarcerated citizens and their families. The move comes at a time when over a million Floridians with prior felony convictions are waiting on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit to decide on their right to register to vote.

"As important as the right to vote is the right to productive employment and decent work," said Khalil Osiris, Founder of RFN and a formerly incarcerated citizen who has experienced firsthand the challenges of reentering the workplace. For more than 600,000 citizens released from America's prisons each year, and their families, the right to vote and decent work are equally important to their successful reentry.

"Leveraging a web-based delivery system provides formerly incarcerated citizens and their families with the flexibility to directly access educational and employment services through our online platform and mobile app," said Osiris. "We look forward to partnering with companies to expand job opportunities for Floridians with prior felony convictions. The right to vote, productive employment and decent work are the foundation of democracy."

RFN's platform and mobile app, 1NetworkUSA.com, is available for returning citizens, their families and youth-at-risk. This scalable restorative justice solution includes the following features:

    -- Web-based job skills training
-- Mobile app available for download on Google Play and Apple App Store
-- Pathways for accredited high school education
-- Virtual job placement services with direct access to job opportunities
