SAE International's A World In Motion® Program Receives Grant to Advance STEM Programming in Arizona

WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SAE Foundation announced today that ON Semiconductor Foundation has awarded a $7,500 grant to advance science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in seven Phoenix-area classrooms. The grant will support SAE's A World In Motion® (AWIM) STEM programming for grades K-8.

"ON Semiconductor's grant will build on the work we're doing in Arizona to ensure that all students have access to hands-on STEM learning experiences," said Lori Gatmaitan, director, SAE Foundation. "Our partnership with ON Semiconductor is helping grow Arizona's diverse, STEM-fluent workforce and opening up a world of opportunities for young learners who may not otherwise be exposed to STEM programming."

This funding expands on a partnership that began with the ON Semiconductor Foundation in 2018 when they provided funding to support AWIM in several Phoenix middle school classrooms.

The ON Semiconductor Foundation is committed to serving the needs of communities across the globe through the investment of resources. The ON Semiconductor Foundation, which was launched in 2019, is overseen by an employee-based board of directors who manage its daily operations and approve recommendations from grant advisors globally. Since 2016, the company has funded more than $5 million in grants, employee matching and in-kind donations, as well as sponsorships and dollars-for-doers for employee volunteerism.

"Investing in the communities in which we operate and where our employees live is critical to our organization as we look to continue our legacy of giving and volunteering," said Theresa Haywood-McCarley, senior director of corporate social responsibility at ON Semiconductor and board secretary for ON Semiconductor Foundation. "On behalf of the ON Semiconductor Foundation, we're proud to support the work of the SAE Foundation as we work toward making the world better together."

SAE's AWIM program provides students with the skills needed to succeed in real-world work environments and helps connect their classroom learning with real-life applications. During the program, students engage in the Engineering Design Experience, which includes setting goals, building knowledge, designing, building, testing and presenting their findings to an audience of peers and/or teachers.
