Mediaplanet and Camila Coelho Team Up for Neurological Disorders Awareness

NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Mediaplanet is proud to announce the launch of its fall edition "Neurological Disorders" campaign, out today within USA TODAY and online. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to strain our healthcare system, there is an incredible need for heightened awareness surrounding brain diseases affecting millions across the country.

Up to one billion people, nearly one-sixth of the world's population, suffer from neurological disorders, with some 6.8 million dying of the disorders each year. There is no cure for any of these disorders, and patients, healthcare professionals, and family caregivers alike are in desperate need of improved therapies and technologies that will help manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

Among several conditions, epilepsy in children and adults is a major focal point of the campaign. Cover story Camila Coelho experienced her first seizure at nine years old, and just recently opened up about her condition to her massive social media fanbase. The successful designer and fashion & beauty influencer speaks openly about how difficult it was to accept her condition, and how the moment she decided to tell the world after sharing so much already affected and inspired her to do more. "I started thinking, I have this huge platform, I have this amazing community, and this is the only thing I have never shared before...I got to hear so many people's stories, stories that really inspired me a lot and really helped me make decisions in my own life I'm living now, especially with pregnancy," she said.

As the Epilepsy Foundation's newest ambassador and board member, Coelho looks forward to helping others find the confidence to speak out about their condition. "Working with the Epilepsy Foundation, my biggest goal is to use my story to educate our society and community about epilepsy," she said. "A lot of people don't know what to do if you have a seizure next to them, or they wouldn't even know what it is. I'm trying to educate my community on what epilepsy is and how to end stigma."

The print component of "Neurological Disorders" is distributed within today's edition of USA TODAY in Atlanta, Boston, the Carolinas, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, North/Central Florida, Philadelphia/Baltimore, Pittsburgh/Cleveland, San Francisco, South Florida and Washington, D.C. The digital component is distributed nationally through a vast social media strategy and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets.
