BraunAbility Announces Mentorship Program for College Students with Disabilities

CARMEL, Ind., Oct. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Thirty years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law, but even today, the needs of people with mobility disabilities are overlooked and their voices go unheard.

BraunAbility announced the launch of its pilot mentorship program for college students with disabilities in the efforts to create a more inclusive work culture in Indiana. Launched in partnership with Old National Bank, the program is an extension of BraunAbility's Drive for Inclusion effort, taking action for greater access, and ultimately inclusion for anyone living with a mobility challenge.

Announced on the 75th anniversary of the observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the program is designed to benefit both the student, and the mentoring professional. Students will gain networking skills, career guidance and professional skills, while the mentor will experience first-hand the importance and advantage of having an inclusive work culture.

"BraunAbility was built on a passion to ensure those with physical disabilities have greater access to the world around us. That same passion for inclusion extends to our workplace and to all individuals," stated Staci Kroon, BraunAbility CEO. "Our ability to innovate, grow and change more lives depends on our willingness to embrace the differences that make each of us individually unique. Together they make us stronger."

The program was inspired by Old National Bank's Achieve Ability program, a mentorship opportunity for aspiring professionals with disabilities to connect and interact with executive leaders at the bank.

"BraunAbility is the perfect partner to help expand this program and benefit more students and businesses throughout Indiana," said Jim Ryan, Old National Chairman and CEO. "Together we can make an even greater impact of inclusiveness within our communities."

Mentor and mentee teams will be formed based on compatibility and shared interests, as well as professional goals. Teams will be encouraged to meet monthly, communicate often and ideally, build a relationship that extends beyond the program.
