Nixxi Welcomes Haywood Brown, MD and Dirk van den Boom, PhD as New Advisory Board Members

PHOENIX, Jan. 26, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Nixxi, a women's health company with a mission to improve pregnancy outcomes, is pleased to welcome two healthcare leaders to its advisory board. Haywood Brown, MD, Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialist and past president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM), and Dirk van den Boom, PhD, a seasoned biotech executive and Chair of the Board of Directors for the San Diego chapter of the March of Dimes, have joined Nixxi's team in advisory roles. Together with the existing leadership team, their involvement will accelerate adoption of the Nixxi platform to empower healthcare providers with timely and actionable information to optimize pregnancy outcomes.

Dr. Brown serves as the Vice President for Institutional Equity at the University of South Florida and the Associate Dean in the Morsani College of Medicine at USF, where he is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He brings over three decades of clinical, academic, and leadership expertise to Nixxi, including having served as the 68th President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University. Prior to his time at Duke University, Dr. Brown spent more than a decade at Indiana University School of Medicine and St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Throughout his career, Dr. Brown has focused on reducing disparities in women's health, particularly for underserved and at-risk populations. His roles include leading the NIH DC Initiative on Infant Mortality and the HSRA Perinatal and Patient Safety Collaboration.

"Serving on Nixxi's advisory board allows me to extend my commitment to the care of women at high risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes," said Dr. Brown. "Additionally, it is critical that we eliminate racial and economic disparities in maternal and infant morbidity and mortality, and Nixxi's digital and blood tests for pregnancy wellness are well positioned to level the playing field and provide optimal care for all women."

Dirk van den Boom has extensive professional experience in developing and commercializing innovative technologies into the women's health space. He currently serves as the Chair of the March of Dimes San Diego Board of Directors and is the CEO of Juno Diagnostics, a genomics company revolutionizing prenatal care. Dr. van den Boom is the former CEO of Sequenom, Inc., where he played a significant role in the development and commercialization of the first cell-free DNA based noninvasive prenatal test (NIPT) in the United States. Since its introduction in 2011, cfDNA-based NIPT has rapidly changed prenatal care and has helped millions of families along their pregnancy journey.

"I am honored to serve on Nixxi's advisory board and join its efforts to reduce the rate of preterm birth," said Dr. van den Boom. "As I have personally and professionally witnessed the effects of preterm birth and its impact to families and across the healthcare system, I'm excited to work with the Nixxi team to efficiently and effectively identify pregnancies vulnerable to preterm birth early."

"Drs. Brown and van den Boom bring decades of experience in the women's health space that will add valuable perspective for Nixxi," said Avi Patil, Founder and CEO of Nixxi. "We look forward to working with these leading experts in their fields, and continuing our commitment to providing innovative products to optimize pregnancy care."
