TuxCare Services Supports Joint NASA/U.S. Geological Survey Mission that Provides a Continuous Global Record of Earth’s Surface

The United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket yesterday launched the Landsat 9 observatory into a near-polar, sun-synchronous orbit for NASA's Launch Services Program. Landsat 9 will extend the legacy of Landsat satellites monitoring the Earth's resources into a fifth decade. The remote-sensing spacecraft's mission is a collaboration between NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and will capture more than 700 scenes of Earth per day.

TuxCare services provide automated security patches and live updates for the systems supporting the Atlas V rocket. Through this work, TuxCare supports NASA’s missions of space exploration and understanding of our own planet.

“Monitoring Earth’s resources is paramount to our ability to keep our planet healthy. TuxCare is proud to do our part to support NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey by providing our Linux Support Services for the systems supporting the ULA’s Atlas V rocket. Live patching critical systems is a key requirement to maintaining availability and enhancing security,” said Jim Jackson, president and chief revenue officer of TuxCare.

This will be the 145th mission for United Launch Alliance. It is the 88th Atlas V launch and the 39th in the 401 configuration. ULA boasts a 100% mission success founded on a heritage of more than 600 Atlas program launches. ULA Atlas rockets and its heritage Delta vehicles have launched every successful Landsat mission over the past 49 years.

“We are honored that NASA has entrusted ULA with launching this critical land imaging satellite. We look forward to working together again with our mission partners to contribute to the international strategy for examining the health and state of the Earth,” said Tory Bruno, ULA’s president and chief executive officer.
