France’s General Directorate of Armaments (DGA) contracts with Preligens for data processing solutions to meet its defense needs

Paris, October 12, 2022 - With the ever-increasing volume of data available from a wide range of sources, including satellite data, the development of AI/ML-driven data processing tools is a major requirement for gaining rapid and more comprehensive understanding of operational situations, in order to make better and faster decisions.

The software licenses acquired as part of the contract will enable the entities of the Ministry of the Armed Forces to meet the need for rapid access to accurate and relevant information from a mass of data, for example the automatic creation of maps from satellite imagery, detection of objects in the visible, infrared and radar imagery fields.

This contract is the conclusion of work initiated in 2017 by the DGA and the Directorate of Military Intelligence in partnership with Preligens, relating to the surveillance of strategic sites of interest. The combined expertise of operational staff and DGA experts has thus made it possible to assess the maturity of Preligens' AI/ML algorithms, as well as complementary functionalities for analyzing and submitting results.

Preligens was founded in 2016 by two French engineers to use AI/ML to process data relevant to defense and intelligence customers. Development was driven by the need to process huge amounts of data from an increasing number of powerful sensors in operation. Based in France and in five countries (including the United States), Preligens currently has more than 200 employees, mostly scientists working on satellite imagery.

The joint intelligence function brings together, under the coordination of the Directorate of Military Intelligence, the intelligence chains of the three armies, as well as those of the Special Operations Command and the Cyber Defense Command.
